What to Do in South Beach (Other Than Fun in the Club and Under the Sun)

South Beach is blessed with many resources and attractions, and it’s no wonder that many travelers and tourists label the neighborhood as ‘heaven’. The entertainment and fun always start on the beach. Every March, tourists and the students wanting to take a breather take a dip at the famed waters of South Beach. The sand in the area is clean and soft beneath the feet, and the water is warm and relaxing. And this kind of atmosphere and environment is just perfect for those who want to work out their tan under the sun. And when the sun starts to set in, clubbing and bar hopping begins. These are the usual activities in South Beach, but there are other things that can be done in the neighborhood. And these activities are family-friendly and come in cheap too! So be ready to enjoy the other side of South Beach, and include your friends and family.

Why not try renting a bicycle or roller blades and practice your skills on the boardwalks near the beach side of Ocean Drive? There are even some hotels in the area that can help you with equipment rentals and instructors, thus this is the perfect activity to pass time and to get tan as well.

Want to exercise and at the same time learn more about South Beach and the Art Deco buildings in the neighborhood? Sign up for the walking tour offered by the Miami Design Preservation League, and this walk introduces you and the other tourists on the Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival and the Miami Revival styles that are found in the district. This is a 90-minute tour that is conducted by the city’s historians and will allow you to appreciate the neighborhood more. This will cover all types of buildings and establishments in the area, including hotels, restaurants and other commercial structures. The tour comes for a minimal fee. The tours are offered almost daily, and the most loaded schedule is usually for Saturday and leaves at 10:30am every Saturday from Art Deco Welcome Center. You don’t need to get reservations for these walking tours; just be present at the Welcome Center within 10-15 minutes and you can get your tickets.

If you get tired of the sun and other outdoor activities in South Beach, then be ready for indoor explorations. Arts and SoBe and you can include a visit to these museums. Look for Bass Museum if you are in the area, and here you can check out excellent work of arts. There are concerts that are held from time to time, and these come in minimal fees. There’s an Egyptian Gallery too to satisfy everyone’s curiosity about one of the world’s oldest and mysterious civilizations. Another notable art spot in the area is Wolfsonian for decorative and industrial arts.
